Critical Inventions and Innovations on Cameras, Projectors, Light/Energy Directing Devices, 3D Systems
* Up to thousands of independent objects can be handled in one snapshot.
* Very long Depth of Field.
* Smart adaptive lighting and patterns to make every pixel have the same accuracy level.
* One click operation. Nothing need to be known about the objects before capturing.
Typical scenario: Assuming there are thousands of balls bouncing in a room. They may have different size, color, etc. (or can be any other geometry shapes other than balls). All the balls can be recognized, separated and surface reconstructed at a blink of eyes or continuously if they can be seen by the cameras. No one will be missed even if it's as small as a fraction of a pencil tip eraser.
- "Camera 2.0": A camera calibration technique that makes any cameras capture images and videos be distortion-free. A revolutionary invention that makes any cameras become 2D or 3D non-contact optical linear/angular rulers. The technique can be used for devices from microscope to telescope or devices that measure from atoms to universe. More details can be read and download from the webpages of TECHNOLOGIES and SUPPORT. Part of the libraries, Apps, API and SDK are online and will be updated frequently. It's free to public.
- Distortion-free camera and projector calibration: It's the ultimate and universally applicable camera/projector calibration technique. It can make any imaging devices and image projecting devices be distortion-free, or with zero geometrical distortion and zero chromatic aberration. After the image rectification, for each pixel, the mean error is 0, the RMS error will be 1/1,000 of a pixel or less.
- Accuracy transfer: With LCD flat panel as reference, all the cameras and projectors can be calibrated to be with zero distortion. The statistic accuracy of the LCD pixel pitch is transferred to the cameras, the projectors and quasi imaging devices. With calibrated cameras as non-contact 2D/3D rulers, all the Opto-electro-mechanical devices can be calibrated to make the system accuracy reach its repeatability accuracy. These devices may include: 3D Laser Tracker, 3D Laser Tracer and all those devices with encoders; Light/Energy Directing devices such as galvos, MEMS mirrors, Fast Steering Mirrors (FSM); motors, gimbals, rotary platforms or any components that are driven by electro-magnetic fields and forces; etc.
- A Universally applicable camera calibration technique: The pixel-by-pixel camera calibration approach and algorithm are developed. Each pixel's properties and characteristics is calibrated independently and accurately. Each pixel can be represented by a ray vector in space and the intensity property. Cameras and projectors with any lens optics and mechanical structures, such as conventional lens, telecentric lens, fisheye lens, tilt-shift lens, Scheimpflug principle lens, and all other special lens optics, etc., can be calibrated. After image rectification (image resampling), all the output images and videos will be distortion-free
- Infinite DOF camera: A camera that can capture images and videos with infinite Depth-Of-Field (DOF). There's no need to make focus adjustment any more, no matter the objects are just in front of the lens or at infinity.
- Infinite DOF projector: A projector that can project images and videos with infinite Depth-Of-Field (DOF). There's no need to make focus adjustment any more, no matter the screen is in front of the lens, or at infinity, or the screen is a free-form surface.
- Full 360° 3D&2D scanning: Capture objects' full 360° 3D & 2D with 1 snapshot in 1 second with only 1 camera! When capturing human head, it will get 3D & 2D of all the face, ears, top and even rear with 1 snapshot. There's no need to move camera or head. There will be no visible 2D image stitching marks on the whole head 3D data. Real-time full 360° 3D&2D at 120 fps is also available.
- Smart Pattern Engine: It makes the 3D scanners be able to handle complex object surfaces with high intensity contrast and/or high color contrast. Equal accuracy will be achieved from these complex surfaces.
- Portable CMM. The portable optical Coordinate Measuring Machine (PCMM) can measure objects of cubic meter dimension with nano meter accuracy. It can also measure objects' 6-DOF positions and orientations with nm and 1"/100 accuracy.
- 3D Cameras with PMD: 3D Camera and Phase Measuring Deflectometry (PMD) 2-in-1 system to handle all complex surfaces include the specular free-form surfaces and translucent objects.
- True WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get): If an object can be seen by the cameras, it's surface can be 3D reconstructed.
